Showcase Project 1:
Stand-Alone MRI Facility
Marion General Hospital
This project was completed in Marion, Ohio, USA, which is 60 miles north of Columbus, as shown on this map:
The hospital wanted a separate MRI unit to accomodate... and to comply with.... Our solution was to ....
Emerging needs at Marion General drove the project requirements:
- MR (Magnetic Resonance) Scan Room
- Control Area
- Equipment Room
- Office Area
- Dressing Room
- Restroom
The magnetic room was designed to specific requirements that incorporated a minimum size, a removable roof hatch for magnet entry and/or exit, and unobstructed access at all times. Of course interiors must also provide special RF Shielding to protect employees and patients alike, and to meet the state and federal requirements for planned-use radiology suites. This room is no exception, as you can see from this full-sized photograph taken midway through construction.
Interior finishes included vinyl wallcovering, VCT flooring, and acoustical ceilings. These finishes are designed to provide extended wear, while creating a professional, yet comfortable environment for the patients. The project included G.E. Medical Systems' .5 SIGNA MR, which is housed in the magnet room. You will also see the same finish detail carried through to the control room, as you can see here.
Exterior finish was stucco and color-selected to blend with the existing building. Finishing details included appropriate handrails, ramps, and lighting to accomodate safety and ease of transport from the primary buildings.
This project took 90 days to complete, and cost $185,000 (U.S.).
